I’m an American and a South Park fan, so yeah—I’ve laughed at plenty of Canadian jokes and cracked a few myself. But here’s the truth: Terrance and Philip are way cooler than you probably give them credit for.

Some folks are so brainwashed by partisan talking points that they’ve started believing Canada’s just our polite, maple-syrup-sipping neighbor who never lifts a finger for us.
That’s not just wrong—it’s the kind of lazy ignorance you can only get from people who’ve never worn a uniform, never cracked a history book, and never stood in a foxhole with a foreign flag flying next to ours.

I’ve served in Iraq twice. I saw Canadians both times. Our planes made logistical stops in Canada. Both times.
I’ve seen them work.
And I can tell you flat-out—they’re not dead weight. They show up. Every damn time.

They’ve Been in the Fight Since the Start

World War I & II – Canada didn’t wait for permission. In WWI, they were in it three years before us. In WWII, they were fighting Hitler before we were done arguing about it. On D-Day, 14,000 Canadians stormed Juno Beach under heavy fire, taking the most ground of any Allied force. Over a million Canadians served in WWII—nearly 1 in 10 citizens.

Korea, Gulf, Afghanistan – They fought in the trenches of Korea, flew sorties in the Gulf War, and in Afghanistan they bled in Kandahar—arguably the nastiest place in the country.

NORAD – For decades, they’ve helped guard our skies. That’s not a handshake agreement—it’s a 24/7 joint defense operation. In 2023, NORAD coordinated a mission where a U.S. jet took out an unidentified object over Canadian airspace—on orders from their Prime Minister.

They’ve Put Skin in the Game

Dieppe Raid (WWII) – A brutal amphibious assault where Canadian troops took devastating losses—over 3,300 casualties out of 5,000 men. Their sacrifice gave the Allies the lessons that made D-Day possible.

Arctic Operations – They train with us in conditions that chew people up and spit them out. If you can fight together in the Arctic, you can fight anywhere.

Humanitarian and Moral Backup

It’s not just about the wars. Canada shows up when lives are on the line—no matter the cause.

Hurricane Harvey (2017) – 27,000 pounds of relief supplies, from baby formula to bedding, shipped south without hesitation.

Cross-Border Disaster Aid – Long-standing agreements let emergency crews roll over the border either way when the big one hits.

Refugee Rescues – Since 2015, Canada’s taken in over 100,000 Syrian refugees—many of them allies, interpreters, and partners we fought alongside—when we couldn’t or wouldn’t.

Milestones That Made Us Brothers in Arms

War of 1812 – Yeah, we fought once. Then we got smart.

Ogdensburg Declaration (1940) – Built the Permanent Joint Board on Defense.

NORAD (1958) – Again. Must be important. Like the gold standard of binational defense anywhere in the world, errr something.

Post-9/11 – Canadians were boots on the ground in Afghanistan before some of our so-called allies even got their travel orders. The first to stand with us.

They Train Like They Fight

Joint exercises aren’t photo ops—they’re preparation for the day things go sideways.

Maple Resolve – Brigade-sized war games with U.S. forces fully embedded.

CUTLASS FURY – Naval warfare in the North Atlantic.

Guerrier Nordique – Arctic survival and combat.

1 in 10 Canadians served in WWII.

1.2 in 10 Americans served in WWII.

The Knife Twist

So yeah—next time some Fox-fed keyboard commando tells you Canada’s useless, remind them these are the same people who’ve stormed beaches, held trenches, flown combat missions, and even sent us baby formula when our own kids were sleeping in flood shelters. They’ve done it without whining, without needing a parade, and without hiding behind a medical deferment like President Bone Spurs. The sudden hate for Canada isn’t patriotism—it’s partisan brainwashing, the same kind that keeps Americans too busy fighting each other to notice the thieves in their own government.

Stop this nonsense that “Canada doesn’t help us.” That’s garbage. Canada isn’t some freeloading neighbor hanging over our fence asking for sugar. They’ve been in the mud, in the blood, and in the fight with us—time and time again.

Sure, they don’t have the raw military horsepower we do. Nobody does. But war isn’t a gym contest, it’s about showing up when it matters, and Canada’s been right there on the line, rifle in hand, since before most people reading this could spell “ally.”

They don’t brag. They don’t posture. They just show up.
And as a veteran, I can tell you—that is the kind of ally you want in the foxhole.
