It’s back.
Fantasy football.
Our national distraction. Our seasonal therapy.
The one thing standing between America and total collapse.
Because let me tell you — it couldn’t come soon enough.
Me and my buddy Wyatt? We’ve been bored.
So bored, we started dabbling in conspiracy theories like they were Girl Scout cookies.
We damn near cracked the whole Matrix.
Like… full Neo mode. Red-pilled, tinfoil hat, decoding flight patterns and muttering about lizard people.
We were one more “bro, hear me out…” away from unplugging the simulation entirely and launching a podcast called “Truth, Tackle, and Trauma.”
Steak tastes good. Ignorance is bliss. Bring me my draft sheet and shut up.
The Draft: A Testosterone-Fueled Pagan Ritual

If you’ve never witnessed a fantasy football draft, just imagine a group of grown men yelling at a touchscreen while consuming enough wings and beer to qualify for a medical study.
And I love every second of it.
We argue like we’re on trial at The Hague.
We analyze 40-yard dash times like Wall Street analysts reading bond yield curves.
We trash talk each other’s families, marriages, and work ethic — all because someone took a kicker in the 8th round.
It’s beautiful.
It’s primal.
It’s therapy… but cheaper.
My Team Name? Always the Same. But Y’all Are Hilarious.

Look, some people switch up their fantasy team name every year like they’re reinventing themselves after a bad breakup. Not me.
My team name is always the same: “Should’ve Punted.”
It’s tradition. It’s accurate. It’s a life philosophy.
It also doubles as advice I give myself every time I fix something that didn’t need fixing, say something that didn’t need saying, or trade away a stud RB for “depth.”
But that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the art form that is a good, absurd, and slightly unhinged fantasy team name. I’ve heard some that made me do a double take and wonder if we should have to pass a breathalyzer before drafting.
Here are some of the best ones I’ve seen around the league:
Tua Tagovailoa Is Samoan for Touchdown Jesus
Fourth and Bong
Bijan Mustard on My Sausage
Dalvin and the Chipmunks
OnlyFans Scouting Department
Victorious Secret
The Real Slim Brady
Mo’ Mixin, Mo’ Problems
Country Road, Take Mahomes
Dude, Where’s My Carr?
Turn Your Head and Goff
Lamar the Merrier
Kareem Hunt(ed) (still uncomfortable)
Deshaun of the Dead (too soon?)
99 Problems but a Britt Ain’t One
Fantasy football is where grown men find their inner 13-year-old again. And somehow, it works.
Why Fantasy Football Might Be Holding America Together

We joke. We talk trash. We bet wings and cash and our reputations.
But fantasy football is spiritual glue.
It brings coworkers, cousins, and random dudes named Tank together every fall to scream about time zones and injury reports.
It gives dads like me something to care about besides property taxes and fixing stuff other people broke.
And it gives the group chat life again.
Because from September to January, it transforms from dead air to a no-holds-barred comedy club with memes, threats, and the occasional screenshot of a bad waiver pickup with “You good, bro?” underneath it.
Let the Delusions Begin

Every single one of us walks into Week 1 like we’re Brad Pitt in Moneyball.
We think we drafted a sleeper-filled juggernaut destined for glory.
By Week 3, we’re just praying for a functioning hamstring and trying to convince ourselves that “game script” is a real thing.
You know it’s bad when grown men are refreshing Twitter at 11:42 a.m. on a Tuesday to see if some 5’8” rookie slot receiver cleared concussion protocol.
In Conclusion: I’m All In

So yeah, I’m back in the league. My roster’s trash. My confidence is high.
I’m ignoring my family, doing mental math on PPR splits, and setting alarms for waiver wire pickups at 3 a.m.
And it feels amazing.
Me and Wyatt are saved from the brink of a full-on InfoWars meltdown.
The Matrix remains intact.
Steak still slaps.
And I’m currently projecting 135 points this week — all lies, but let me have this.
So here’s to another season of heartbreak, spreadsheets, and desperately needing 14 points from your kicker on Monday night.
So here’s to my league mates in Kings of Canton, Grown Ups, GIX, and the one we don’t talk about because of rules #1 and #2.
Fantasy football is back, baby. And so is hope.
