READ PART ONE

Remember back in 2024 when over 70% of Nebraskans stood up, squinted into the political smog, and said “Yes” to medical marijuana?

That’s not just rare. That’s historic.
We’re talking about the most red, boot-wearing, conservative-leaning, don’t-tell-me-what-to-do state in the country…
and even we said:

“Let sick people have their weed.”

And what did our politicians do with that once-in-a-generation voter mandate?

They tossed it in a shredder, took a suppository of self-importance, and said:

“Sure, we’ll legalize it… just not like that.”

Enter the Emergency Regulations: The Political Equivalent of a Wet Nap

On June 29, 2025, Governor Pillen finally signed emergency regulations—after his cannabis commission passed them.

Applications are open now. Four licenses available:

Cultivator

Manufacturer

Transporter

Dispensary

But don’t get too excited. Nebraska pulled a bait and switch.

You can only pick ONE license type.
You need to be a 4-year Nebraska resident just to qualify.
And the kicker?

NO cannabis flower.
NO edibles.
NO drinks.
NO vapes.

You can get your cannabis in:

Patches

Suppositories (because nothing says relief like weed in your ass)

Tinctures

Oil

Because apparently the state’s idea of compassion is turning cannabis into Flintstone vitamins for grown-ups.

The State’s Message to Patients: “You Can Have Weed… If You’re Willing to Suffer First.”

So let me get this straight…

We legalized five ounces of flower.
The state turned that into twelve dispensaries, only tablets and patches, and made doctors micromanage your dosage like it’s radioactive plutonium.

That’s not access.
That’s sabotage with a medical label.

And they’re doing it all while STILL fighting it in court.

Why?

Because some of these clowns are more loyal to the DEA’s outdated playbook than the Nebraska voter’s ballot box.

BUT THEN THE OMAHA TRIBE SHOWED UP.

While the state was playing hot potato with voter mandates, the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska walked in like absolute bosses and said:

“We’re legalizing cannabis. ALL of it. Medical AND recreational. Today.”

No drama. No delay. No suppository bullsh*t.

Just:

A tribal regulatory commission
A framework for safe sales and production
Social equity programs
Expungement for past cannabis charges
A 15% excise tax to support the community
Legal weed for ALL adults on tribal land

Let me say that again, louder for the politicians in the back:

THE FIRST FUNCTIONAL CANNABIS SYSTEM IN NEBRASKA IS ON TRIBAL LAND.

And I’ll be damned if that doesn’t deserve some serious love and respect.

👏 To the Omaha Tribe: THANK YOU. 👏
For doing what the state was too scared, too slow, or too self-serving to do.
For putting community over control.
And for reminding the rest of Nebraska what leadership actually looks like.

Meanwhile, the State Is Still…

Fumbling funding like a toddler with a chainsaw

Stuck in court battles from people who think the ‘70s are still happening

Appointing anti-cannabis commissioners

Ignoring patients who are literally dying waiting for access

Pretending “voter intent” is a suggestion, not a command

And don’t forget—there are zero employment protections.
So even if you’re a legal patient, your boss can still fire you for THC in your system.

That’s right:
Legal to treat your pain. Illegal to keep your job.

Brilliant.

What Needs to Happen Now

1. Give patients access to flower, edibles, and vapes. Stop pretending your restrictions are compassionate.

2. Scrap the residency requirement. It’s unconstitutional garbage.

3. Fund the commission. With real dollars. Not political IOUs.

4. Protect workers. Your weed shouldn’t cost you your livelihood.

5. Respect the damn vote. 70% said yes. You work for them.

Final Word

We the people did our part.
We showed up. We voted. We shouted with our ballots:

“Let the people heal.”

And the state?
They’ve done everything possible to make that healing a bureaucratic nightmare.

But the Omaha Tribe?
They didn’t wait for permission.
They just got it done.

So if the Nebraska government won’t lead, let the people follow the tribe.

Because in the battle for cannabis in this state, it’s clear:

The tribe isn’t just ahead.
They’re the only ones actually moving forward.
