Let’s call it what it is. Nebraska voters—the people—did something almost no one in America is doing. We actually agreed on something.

Over 70% of Nebraskans voted to legalize medical marijuana.
You know how rare that is? We don’t get 70% of people to agree on literally anything anymore. You can’t get 70% of people to agree that the sky is blue if there’s a politician nearby telling them it’s mauve.

And yet—here we are.

We fought for it. We won. And now our own politicians are standing at the gate with clipboards, high-fiving each other for cock-blocking cancer patients.

Yeah, I said it.

They are actively blocking safe, legal access to medicine that could help veterans, chronic pain sufferers, epileptics, and countless Nebraskans—because they think they know better than the very people they begged for votes.

Their Argument: “It’s Not Safe.”

Reality: “It’s Safer Than Politicians Making Medical Decisions.”

You know what’s not safe?
Letting a bunch of people who probably can’t operate a coffee machine without a lobbyist hold the keys to medical access.

The anti-weed crowd screams about safety like everyone’s out here cooking meth in their basement with medical cannabis. News flash: the medicine already exists. People in legal states use it safely every single day. They’re not dropping dead in the streets. They’re not driving bulldozers through shopping malls. They’re getting relief.

You know what is killing people?
Opioids. Alcohol. Tobacco. All legal. All regulated. All taxed. But somehow, this plant is the monster?

Give me a fuggin break.

Their Argument: “The Regulatory Structure Isn’t Ready.”

Reality: “You Made Sure It’s Not Ready.”

The Legislature had one job: build the system. Voters gave you the blueprint. You just had to fund it, regulate it, and get out of the way.

But instead of doing your job, you sat on your hands, formed a committee to form a committee, and then smugly announced: “The regulatory framework isn’t ready.”

You mean the framework you intentionally underfunded and refused to pass? The commission you left castrated on purpose?
That’s like setting a house on fire and saying, “Yeah, I can’t move in—it burned down.”

Obvious Solution:
Fund the damn commission. Build the regulation. Copy literally any other state that’s done this successfully, slap a Nebraska sticker on it, and call it a day. This isn’t rocket science, it’s paperwork.

Their Argument: “It Could Create a Wild West Market.”

Reality: “You’re the Sheriff. Do Your Job.”

They love using the phrase “Wild West” like it’s supposed to scare us. First of all, Nebraska is the Wild West. Secondly, we have laws, regulations, law enforcement, and enough bureaucracy to make a DMV clerk cry.

If you don’t want a Wild West market—regulate it.

You can’t simultaneously say,
“We need regulation to prevent chaos,”
while also voting down every regulation that would prevent said chaos.

Obvious Solution:
You don’t want chaos? Pass the regulatory bill you killed in committee. If you’re worried about bad actors, write tight licensing requirements. Problem solved.

Their Argument: “We Need More Time.”

Reality: “We’ve Had Years.”

This wasn’t sprung on you last Tuesday. Medical cannabis has been a national conversation for decades. Nebraskans voted for it in 2024. It’s now 2025. That’s more than enough time to read a bill, take a bathroom break, and show up to a vote.

Hell, most of you spent less time vetting your campaign donors.

Obvious Solution:
Do your job. Show up. Vote. You don’t get to delay the will of the people because you “feel” unprepared. That’s not how democracy works. That’s how spoiled toddlers work.

The Real Reason: They Just Don’t Like It.

Let’s cut the crap.
The opposition doesn’t care about safety, regulation, or the “Wild West.” They just don’t like it. They don’t like weed. They don’t like the people who use it. And they don’t like that the voters told them what to do instead of the other way around.

They’d rather lose their own re-election than admit the voters got this one right.

Final Thought: Democracy Should Scare the Arrogant

When over 70% of people agree on something in today’s America, it should be treated as a mandate from God himself.

But here? In Nebraska?
Our politicians are treating it like a pesky little suggestion they can casually ignore.

Here’s the thing: if you’re a public servant ignoring a supermajority vote, you’re not a leader—you’re a roadblock.

We don’t need roadblocks.

We need bulldozers.

So to the Nebraska Legislature:
Get out of the way.
Get on board.
Or get bulldozed next election.
